We all change our phones after some
period of usage for one reason or the other ranging from Economic reasons
(either a raise or fall in financial status), Social reasons (change in taste,
) and some due to the deteriorating state of the phone, some out of wanting to
be up to date with the techie world. But before laying your hands on the coveted
new phone, there are some things to take note of;
- FINANCE
Definitely the most important thing to
consider is “Cash at hand”, you can’t eat your cake and have it, you have to be
able to afford the type of phone you are willing to buy.
- BATTERY CAPACITY
IN Nigeria today, the order of the day is
epileptic power supply, no one wants to use a phone that will require power top
up every 3hrs, or worse still, forced to keep the phone plug in while using. A
phone with a battery spec of 2500-4000mAH should suffice for optimum
satisfaction.
- CAMERA
This is the era of pictures, pictures and
pictures, so you definitely will want to have a phone that gives the best
output when you take a picture. Camera is a very vital part of a phone; both
the front and rear camera specs need to be taken into consideration. A phone of
8megapixel and above should do, however the camera specs needs to be considered
alongside the screen resolution.
- SCREEN RESOLUTION
You wonder how come you take a picture
with your phone but the pictures looks more fabulous on a friend’s phone, check
it, your friend’s phone has a higher screen resolution. For example, both
Samsung galaxy s4 and Infinix zero X506 have a 13MP rear camera, but the former
has a screen resolution of 1080 x1920pixels and a 441ppi while the latter has
its resolution as 720 x 1280pixels and a 294ppi, so you should expect a picture
taken on s4 to be brighter and more appealing than the Infinix zero.
- SIZE AND PHYSICAL OUTLOOK
If you are the type that doesn’t like
moving around with heavy things, then you should take the size of your phone
into great consideration. You don’t want to be moving around with a heavy
phone, we are no more in the era of Thuraya. You may want to check some
physical features as well such as Color, Shape, beauty etc.
- OS (Operating System)
This is a very vital part of any phone.
Before you get that new phone, make sure you examine yourself and decide on
which type of Operating System you are most convenient with, is it the Android,
Windows, iOS, BB10 etc.
- BRAND NAME
Most people will say this is not
necessary, but remember this is your money, you have to get something you know
and assured will last the test of time. Some manufacturing companies over the
years chunk out phone with very standards. They ensure this high standard
through the desired level of Reliability (ability of a phone to be used over a
period of time without failure or breakdown), Maintainability (a measure of
ease with which the phone can be repaired and returned to operational status
following a break down), Availability (ease at which the phone’s part and
hardware can be gotten when the need arises) as well as their After-sales services
i.e. their warranty and guaranty program. You don’t want to get a phone that
will cost you as much price as that used
to purchase it to repair; you don’t want a phone which you will discover that
the parts are not available in the market or a phone with just few months
warranty or no guaranty. Therefore you can stick to a particular brand name if
you have to.
- MEMORY and PROCESSOR SIZE
“No one wants to use a hanging phone”
says a friend. The memory size of the phone is very vital as this determines
the speed with which datas are being processed on the phone. I make it a point
of duty not to buy a phone with a Ram of less than 2gb. If you are a heavy user,
it will speak well if you get a phone with a high processor value. The internal
memory size is also important as while using, some apps are designed to use and
access only the internal memory unit. Definitely you won’t want a phone that
keeps complaining of low storage space even when you have enough memory space
on the external SD card.
